A perennial plant, heat-loving, often grown as an annual. The leaves are collected in a dense basal rosette. Sow from April to July. Sow thinly ½” deep in drills 12″ apart in soil that has been raked to a fine tilth. When large enough to handle, thin seedlings to 9-12cm apart. Fresh young leaves with a spicy taste are used for food, from which salads and cheese dishes are prepared.
