It is a biennial plant. In the first year, it forms green leaves and a thickened white stem 15-60 cm long, which is the main edible part of the plant. The optimal time for sowing is April, while the seedlings can be produced under covers in March and then transplanted into the field in May. Sow thinly in rows 20cm apart cover with 1.5cm of fine soil.
